AN NWЕWI-BORN HUMANITARIAN ADVOCATES ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN NNEWI NORTH IGR…

Sweet Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation, A Member of Nnewi Concerned Citizens (NCC), Calls for Transparency, Responsible Governance and Lasting Peace in Nnewi Ancient City

A non-governmental organisation, Sweet Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation, under the leadership of its President and Founder, Rev. Dr. Austin Ify Epunam (JP), has taken steps to advocate for greater transparency and accountability in the management of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

On 15 September 2026, the Foundation submitted a protest letter to the Anambra State Government House in Awka. The letter was received on behalf of His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, on 24 September 2026.

In the letter, the Foundation expressed concern over the alleged lack of accountability in the collection and management of revenue generated within Nnewi North, particularly amid public concerns that some revenues may not be properly accounted for.

The Foundation recalled previous public statements attributed to Governor Soludo and the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, concerning revenue accountability in Nnewi, reportedly made on 8 August 2025 and 2 August 2026, respectively.

The Foundation also acknowledged the Governor’s reported directive on 2 October 2026, calling for total accountability from the newly sworn-in local government chairmen.

Speaking at Sweet Home Plaza, Nnewi, after the submission of the notice letter to the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Rev. Dr. Epunam urged the council chairman to demonstrate exemplary leadership by promoting transparency, accountability and responsible management of public funds.

He further called on the chairman to use his good offices to address concerns surrounding the alleged detention of political opponents and to discourage every form of intimidation against opposition groups. According to him, an atmosphere of fairness, mutual respect and freedom of expression is essential to achieving enduring peace and stability in Nnewi Ancient City.

The Foundation emphasised the importance of establishing effective checks and balances in the management of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as well as funds received through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) and other government support intended for the development of the Nnewi community.

It maintained that public revenue should be managed transparently and directed towards the collective welfare and development of the people, rather than being diverted into private hands.

The Foundation’s position reflects its commitment to good governance, financial accountability, civic responsibility and the sustainable development of Nnewi.

As the biblical admonition in Galatians 6:7 reminds us: “God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

The Foundation therefore calls on all relevant authorities and stakeholders to embrace transparency, uphold the principles of accountability and work collectively towards a peaceful, just and prosperous Nnewi Ancient City.

Signed:

Rev. Dr. Austin Ify Epunam (JP)
